An assertion that I deem pseudo-scientifically founded: A dirty dish leads to dirty dishes.
The article, The Spreading of Disorder, endeavored to quantify the Broken Windows Theory (BTW). The idea is that restoring the appearance of order will reduce the likelihood of crime. This relies on two assumptions. The first is that most people pursue the goal of acting appropriately. The second is that acceptable conduct is constructed from the conditions of the persons environment.
